THE TEN BEST WAYS TO IMPROVE MEETING EFFECTIVENESS
- Establish clear and attainable goals.
- Set up the procedures and structures to make sure they are
accomplished.
- Use the Dimock Group Roles Method (or
the Interaction Method) to share the leadership and use the group's resources.
- Follow the Logical Steps in Problem Solving Format.
- Use Brainstorming to generate creative suggestions (and avoid
discussion of their weaknesses
and strengths at that time).
- Sub group to increase contributions and decrease interpersonal
dynamics (reports are
made on behalf of the total sub group).
- Do regular process analysis—especially when the group is stuck or
winding down (surfacing hidden agendas, power plays, deviations from
agreed procedures, and unresolved
conflict).
- Have the group contribute to the meeting's agenda which is
circulated in advance of
the meeting.
- Work towards general agreements on decisions and be prepared to
establish task forces
to try out more than one favorable alternative (avoid win/lose majority
voting).
- Establish time lines and responsibilities for all
decisions/action plans and up date the progress on the relevant ones at every
meeting.
