Does Carol look like she just arrived?

On day one, we toured the various archeological sites - including the colosseum below.

On our second day in Rome, we spent much of our time wondering around the Vatican. Of particular interest was "The Vatican Museum" - which includes the Sistine Chapel and room after room of artifacts from past campaigns. For the $14 entrance fee, it was a great value. The photo (right) was actually taken while inside. Photos below give show the size and beauty of the place.

That evening, we were taken out for dinner and opera. It was a great ending to a great visit. Tomorrow we leave for Florence.

After the museum, we did a walking tour. Of special interest was a building I'd stumbled across when I visited Rome in my teenage years. The Pantheon is 2000 years old and built with ancient Greek technology. On right, Carol is inside - showered by light coming through a hole in the great domed roof. Michelangelo was in such awe of the dome (which in his day was already 1500 years old), he could not bring himself to design the dome of St. Peter's wider than that of the Pantheon - which measures 138 feet (42 meters) in diameter.
From the Pantheon we continued to the Trivi Fountain and Spanish Steps

then back to the Pantheon for one last look.
